Al-Taj News – The age-old rivalry between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo has returned to the spotlight after France Football magazine launched a public poll to choose the greatest Ballon d’Or winner in history.
Ten legends who have won the award at least twice are competing in the poll, led by Messi and Ronaldo, alongside Ronaldo Nazário (1997 and 2002), Marco van Basten (1988, 1989, 1992), Michel Platini, Johan Cruyff, Franz Beckenbauer, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, Kevin Keegan, and Alfredo Di Stéfano.
Voting began in early October and will continue until midnight on October 27, Paris time, with participants asked to select a specific season from each legend’s career.
According to Argentina’s TyC newspaper, what stands out about the poll is that each vote costs one euro, in exchange for entry into a draw for two tickets to this year’s Ballon d’Or ceremony and an iconic image of the award.
The system also allows multiple votes for the same candidate, with the percentages available for live tracking, raising questions about the credibility of the results.
